| ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to investigate the species of conidial fungi associated with leaf litter of Cedrela odorata (Meliaceae), an endangered red cedar species typical of Amazonian terra-firme forests. Conidial fungi were sampled around C. odorata individuals in three forest areas in the municipality of Belém (Pará State, Brazil). A total of 104 species were identified, with 53 new records for the state of Pará, 46 first records for the Brazilian Amazon, including new records for Brazil (Cordana abramovii), for South America (Acarocybiopsis cubitaensis, Xylocladium claviforme) and for the Americas (Dactylaria biguttulata). | Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill., isolate CG 306, was assayed against Triatoma infestans (Klug) using indirect application by contact with a treated filter paper. The fungus was deposited on filter paper by vacuum-filtration of a conidial suspension. Estimates of 50% survival time of insects were between 15 and 21 days at 3x10(6) and 10(7) conidia/cm² of treated support, respectively, without significant difference between concentrations. A concentration of 2.4x10(6) conidia/cm² of CG 306 was necessary to kill 50% of T. infestans third instar nymphs 25 days after inoculation at 25°C and 50% relative humidity, when insects were continuously exposed to conidia. | Se analizó la capacidad de Dictyosporium triramosum, Minimidochium parvum y Tetraploa aristata, aisladas de materia orgánica colectada en Río Santiago (Provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina), para crecer y decolorar medios agarizados y suplementados con diferentes cromóforos sintéticos al 0,01 % (p v-1). Cristal violeta y verde brillante redujeron el crecimiento de las 3 cepas revelando los mayores porcentajes de inhibición. Mientras que eosina y rosa de bengala no afectaron a D. triramosum, valores superiores al 50 % de inhibición se observaron en M. parvum y T. aristata. | Zasmidium angulare, a novel species of Mycosphaerellaceae, and several novel taxa that reside in Dissoconiaceae, were identified from a collection of apples and Cucurbita maxima (cv. Blue Hubbard) from China and the USA that exhibited sooty blotch and flyspeck (SBFS) signs on their host substrata. | Folhas em decomposição de Caesalpinia echinata Lam. foram coletadas, de janeiro de 2002 a abril de 2004, a maioria no Município de São Paulo, para isolamento de fungos anamorfos que decompõem esse substrato. Para análise dos fungos aplicou-se no folhedo a técnica de lavagem e incubação em câmaras-úmidas. Quarenta e seis táxons foram identificados, 43 pertencentes aos Hyphomycetes e três aos Coelomycetes. Dictyosporium zeylanicum Petch, Gyrothrix grisea Piroz., Sporidesmiumcf. filirostratum Cabello, Cazau & Aramb., S. inflatum (Berk. & Ravenel) M.B. | Raízes em decomposição de Ctenanthe oppenheimiana Sond., representante da família Marantaceae, cultivada na Seção de Ornamentais do Instituto de Botânica, SP, Brasil, foram estudadas quanto à presença de Hyphomycetes. As raízes foram coletadas mensalmente, de janeiro de 1986 a dezembro de 1987 e após aplicação da técnica de lavagem vigorosa, deixadas em câmara úmida por dois meses. | Recent studies have found a wide range of ascomycetes to be associated with sooty blotch and flyspeck (SBFS) blemishes on the surfaces of pomaceous fruits, specifically apples. Based on collections of such fungi from apple orchards in Germany and Slovenia we introduce two novel genera according to analyses of morphological characters and nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences (large subunit and internal transcribed spacer regions). | Curvularia pallescens Boedijn (Hyphomycetes) is redescribed with the aid of a scanning electron microscope, and the optimal cultural conditions for growing this fungus are discussed. Cytological analysis and nuclear condition, observed through the HCl-Giemsa technique, showed vegetative and reproductive structures (hypha and conidia) formed by uni, bi, tri, and multinucleated segments. Cultures of C. pallescens in Complete medium and in Potato dextrose agar varied on growth, on aspects of the border of the colonies and also on medium pigmentation. The Complete medium and the temperature between 25-28°C were the most indicated for growth of C. pallescens. |

| The family Lophiotremataceae (Pleosporales, Dothideomycetes) is taxonomically revised on the basis of morphological observations and phylogenetic analyses of sequences of nuclear rDNA SSU, ITS, and LSU regions and tef1 and rpb2 genes. A total of 208 sequences were generated from species of Lophiotremataceae and its relatives. According to phylogenetic analyses, Lophiotremataceae encompasses the genus Lophiotrema and five new genera: Atrocalyx, Crassimassarina, Cryptoclypeus, Galeaticarpa, and Pseudocryptoclypeus. | A Serra da Jibóia, fragmento de Mata Atlântica situado no município de Santa Terezinha, Bahia, está incluído entre as áreas prioritárias para conservação. Com o objetivo de conhecer os fungos conidiais decompositores da serapilheira nesse ecossistema, foram realizadas cinco expedições a cada dois meses, de outubro/2005 a junho/2006. Trinta amostras de material vegetal (folhas, pecíolos, galhos e cascas) foram coletadas em três parcelas de 10 m², eqüidistantes entre si (10 m), delimitadas em duas áreas com vegetação e umidade diferentes. | ABSTRACT Through field and laboratory experiments we investigated the effects of leaf traits of two tree species and microbial conditioning on the abundance, biomass, and feeding preference of a typical macroinvertebrate shredder. In the field, we compared the association of Phylloicus (Calamoceratidae, Trichoptera) with two tree species commonly found in riparian zones, which are representative of high and low nutritional quality, respectively: Nectandra megapotamica and Chusquea tenella.
